Rulesets workshop

Postby Corbeau » Thu Oct 02, 2014 1:49 pm

Ok, I need help with understanding how effects.ruleset actually works.

For example, I was trying to find out where exactly does it say that unit upkeep under Republic is one shield and one gold in the ruleset we are playing in LT (here), but I can't make any sense out of it.

Also, I checked most of it, but I can't find where to change the city radius.

When we're at it, is it possible to change city radius based on some in-game criteria?

Isn't in the experimental ruleset? City radius increases with city growth, if I remember correctly. As rulesets are in a language that I don't speak, i couldn't check that out. :oops:

Yes, I had my ruleset increase city radius on city level 8,

Code: Select all
[effect_base_unit_upkeep_gold_1]
name = "Upkeep_Factor"
value = 1 <= multiplier for upkeep defined for unit (most if not all units have it at 1)
reqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
"OutputType", "Gold", "Local" <= upkeep in what
}
nreqs =  <= does not apply whe?, Republic is not on the list (commented out), so it applies; anarchy is listed, means it does not apply there (though other effects can set some other factor)
{ "type", "name", "range"
"Gov", "Anarchy", "Player"
"Gov", "Tribal", "Player"
"Gov", "Communism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Despotism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Monarchy", "Player"
; "Gov", "Fundamentalism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Federation", "Player"
; "Gov", "Republic", "Player"
; "Gov", "Democracy", "Player"
}
//same for shileds
[effect_base_unit_upkeep_shield]
name = "Upkeep_Factor"
value = 1
reqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
"OutputType", "Shield", "Local"
}
nreqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
; "Gov", "Anarchy", "Player"
; "Gov", "Tribal", "Player"
; "Gov", "Communism", "Player"
"Gov", "Despotism", "Player"
"Gov", "Monarchy", "Player"
"Gov", "Fundamentalism", "Player"
"Gov", "Federation", "Player"
; "Gov", "Republic", "Player"
"Gov", "Democracy", "Player"
}

As for city radius its City_Radius_Sq effect that increases it as listed in:
http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Editing_Rulesets
initial radius is in game.rulseset : init_city_radius_sq = 15
Radius is in given in squared form to give round appearance. I could try to explain what effect I has, but you will probably understand it better after fiddling with it a bit, though it's quite obvious (at least when I already know about it).

Ok, what you copied here (upkeep gold) was perfectly understandable to me, too, until I found this, just beliow the first one:

Code: Select all
[effect_base_unit_upkeep_gold_2]
name = "Upkeep_Factor"
value = 1
reqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
"OutputType", "Gold", "Local"
}
nreqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
"Gov", "Anarchy", "Player"
"Gov", "Tribal", "Player"
"Gov", "Communism", "Player"
"Gov", "Despotism", "Player"
"Gov", "Monarchy", "Player"
; "Gov", "Fundamentalism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Federation", "Player"
"Gov", "Republic", "Player"
; "Gov", "Democracy", "Player"
}

Same effect name, same code name within brackets (except "_2" instead of "_1") and pretty much different governments. So, what is this second set and how do we know it isn't being used?

Also, what is this?
Code: Select all
[effect_base_unit_upkeep_food]
name = "Upkeep_Factor"
value = 1
reqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
"OutputType", "Food", "Local"
}
nreqs =
{ "type", "name", "range"
"Gov", "Anarchy", "Player"
"Gov", "Tribal", "Player"
"Gov", "Communism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Despotism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Monarchy", "Player"
; "Gov", "Fundamentalism", "Player"
; "Gov", "Federation", "Player"
"Gov", "Republic", "Player"
; "Gov", "Democracy", "Player"
}

I don't remember any government-particular food upkeep. Only regarding units and regarding city size.

That's Civ2Civ3 ruleset. Different governments do have food upkeeps for units.

IIRC, the different _1, _2 and base are used when there are wonders that affect food upkeeps (like Pyramids or somesuch..)
--= the Grime =--

That is all.

Yes, I know it's Civ2civ3. I played it, but don't remember any government-particular food upkeep. Only when there were more than twice as many units than the city size.

So, what exactly is this supposed to mean? And since you mention wonders, I'm interested what does copiead stuff mean.
