Ye they can be noticed at first look. Regularity is due to my Gimp's small desert pattern of 10x10 pixels (= tiles) repeated all around. A larger pattern of 100x100 pixels would completely remove eye-visible repetitions.
However, as explained to Ferdi, I made the map in a fury rush, so don't expect a miracle - and that's why it is on the "bucket" section :P
By the way, everybody can make a map of Africa out of regular sat images, then Gimp-shop the pictures a little, and finally crunch on with the mapper generator program.
