A small Hex map of the Earth - because I wanted to try out Hex tilesets.
For FreeCiv 2.4.2 with Civ2Civ3 ruleset.

Here's how it looks with Amplio2Hexbig tileset

1 - I got the inspiration for this map from http://alohasoy.deviantart.com/art/Eart ... -140180484
I don't know a tool for copying hex maps into freeciv so the map above is created from scratch using the freeciv editor.
I would like to create bigger maps - does anyone know a tool for importing hex maps into freeciv.

2. Beating the ai in this scenario is initially trivial. Just swap to a tribal govt and walk into the empty German city.

3 - I removed the following edit from the main post because the bug is not in the savegame.
** Edit **
If you make a cease fire with the ai you get a server warning about concurrent mode.
Will update this map when I have found the cause of this
**
I cannot recreate this error. It seems to have been caused by the editor, and is not in the savegame.
Hence I will not update this map.

Hi kevin,

maybe you are interested in this software, which allows to convert regular image files into Freeciv maps. That way it'd be easy to scale the map to any size.

Hi Davide,
I am interested in hex maps.
The software you link to offers the following choices :-

Code: Select all
print 'Please enter the topology ID now.'
print 'Enter 0 if there is no wrapping at all'
print 'Enter 1 if there is wrapping in X'
print 'Enter 2 if there is wrapping in Y'
print 'Enter 3 if there is wrapping in X and Y'
print 'Add 4 to any of the above if the map is ISO'
print 'The png has to be drawn specially for ISO to work'
readin = raw_input('Topology: ')
topology = string.atoi(readin)
while (topology >7 or topology <0):
    readin = raw_input('Please enter only a number between 0 and 7: ')
    topology = string.atoi(readin)

hex maps are topology 8 to 15. Thanks anyway.

That is not the software I linked.
Anyway, it's also true that by default my software only produces square, non-iso maps, but with a minor tweak it should be possible to also produce hex, non-iso maps out of image files. But to be sure I'd need to test it.

The later version of Kasei's script from which I copied also allows the creation of iso maps. It would be really great if the minor tweak you hope for allowed the creation of iso hex maps.

Or another hopeful wish, is there any way of copying civ5 scenarios directly into freeciv.
The maps I was hoping to copy / create are here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=500154

I am hoping to update the freeciv ancients ruleset and use it with one of these maps.
