Compiling win32 version

Postby nlight » Mon Dec 17, 2012 9:19 am

On my 1500 mhz PC, and windows xp, gtk version of freeciv run not
so good. Tried SDL version and is almost perfect, but on city screen
is impossible to see tiles values (too small).
I tried to compile win 32 version, and here I need help.
Because install notes is so confusing, I cannot figure it out what
packages I need and what is the right ./configure command.
If anybody knows, please help. I have MinGW.

ps

I really like SDL version, and I hope maintainers
will fix that city screen.

Hi nlight,
it's not an easy nor quick task to compile on Windows, and probably the compiled program would be identical to the one you already have installed. However, this is a detailed walkthrough on the subject.

For the SDL client: nobody uses it as it lacks features compared to the GTK alternative, and it's unmaintained.
What problem are you encountering exactly on GTK?

When the problem is performance, recompilation may only speed up the binary by a 10-30%, so wouldn't make such a great visible difference. Instead, there are some graphical options within the GTK client which draw a lot more computer power than I would sanely expect, such as drawing trade lines between cities. Also, drawing "fog of war" may be heavy. I'd try to selectively disable some of these graphical luxuries and see what happens.

Yes, I removed all extra, and I'm using trident tileset.
As I understand, on win xp it can run gtk client, sdl client
and win32 native client. This native win32 I want to try.
On that link they are addressing the errors I was getting, so
hopefully I will compile it, someday :)

thanks for help
