1st turn: only 23 hours?

Postby monamipierrot » Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:05 pm

I strongly suggest to add 2 more days to end 1st turn so hopefully everybody can start from the beginning, minimizing number of idlers by 1st-turn-loss-frustration.
1st turn should be 3x23h=69h long

I've set the first turn timeout to two days for the moment. We didn't have much trouble using a regular 23-hours timeout for most of the past games, though a few of those had a longer start timeout because users had requested so. Anyway, the server automagically sends an alert email to any player who should miss their first turn (T0), and this commonly results in that player getting back into the match by T1 and playing with regularity thereafter.

However, if you think that a three-days timeout is more appropriate let me know.

Well, if after >24hours they didnt' connect, I think you could manually send him a email, so they won't miss T0. I don't think 1 missing turn change your chances in the slightiest way, but people may be frustrated by having miss one turn and maybe decide to idle.
By the way, if you have confirmed, why don't receive an automatic message to tell you the match starts?

Is there a fast way to check connections during T0? If you want I can do it manually.

I see that the timers for GTO8 and GT09 are about 5 hours off from each other. I feel like if they were synced up it would be profitable for players playing both games. Would this be taken into consideration when extending the first turn in GT09?

Confirmed players do receive a memorandum before the match starts.
I have synched GT08 and GT09 timeouts.
