The idea is simply, *any* unit *may* be unloaded from ship into combat. Only, some of them will be equiped and trained for this situation and thus suffer less losses (and inflict more damage to the enemy) while those non-equppped and non-trained will be slaughtered.
And I simply can't swallow this "it doesn't matter whether marines are attacking from land or from sea". Anyone seen a beach landing under fire?
Simply put, if you have a fortress on a single-tile mountain island, it's *supposed* to be near-impossible to conquer.
