Freeciv-debian upgraded to 2.4.0

Postby Davide » Sat Sep 28, 2013 1:49 am

Freeciv-debian.ns0.it passed to 2.4.0.
Have some tests and report any problem you should spot.

Does this prevent 2.3.x clients from connecting? I don't see the freeciv-debian servers on the list.

Any pre-rolled 32bit Debian packages out yet, or do I have to compile it myself?

(shame on you, making me work to get my freeciv fix!)

No pre-rolls. Last roll was 2.3.2.

Edit:

Code: Select all
apt-get install libgtk-3-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev
./configure --prefix=/usr/handsoftware/ --enable-mapimg=no --disable-gtktest --disable-sdltest --disable-sdl-mixer CFLAGS='-march=i686 -O3'

You might need to point APT to Debian testing.

Ok, thanks. I've got it compiled and can now see the server.

Too bad nobody's on.

Yes, I guess the regular players haven't got this version. I'll try to install it now.

I installed it last night. Played a practice session of Stee's tiny islands config. Nobody else connected :(

Anyhow, glad to see Davide moved the config file over. Didn't test any others, though. I'm sure they are there. Noticed that national borders were *not* appearing. Not sure if that was a function of the config file, or a default setting on the server. If default, that might need to be fixed.

Otherwise, glad to see that the plugins downloaded perfectly on my Wintel machine. However, over the years I simply copied many files over from the Data directory from a previous version into the Data directory for the latest version (example: freesounds soundspec files, civ2civ3 files, amplio, etc...). For the first time ever, freesounds didn't work with the new version. I had to download it and install using the plugins tool. I suppose there is a subtle difference in the files for 2.4.0, but I wasn't that intrigued to figure it out since all I wanted was to get it working (which I did).

Some interesting added touches and minor changes in this version. Unit selection for unit stacks was the first thing that I noticed. Nicely done. Also, noticed a new menu item under Game regarding saving Map images. Not sure about the purpose of that.

Will new games of GT be running on 2.4.0 ?

Yes!

Also, 2.4 comes with an integrated /delegate command which can be used directly from the client.
